| Rock music memorabilia sold at a charity fundraising auction collected an astounding 2.4 million held in New York City this weekend. Some of the biggest sellers were Jimi Hendrix's red fender mustang guitar which sold for $480,000. U2 guitarist and co-founder of the fundraiser The Edge donated several instruments including his favorite guitar which was a 1975 Gibson Les Paul that he has played for years. Bono donated sunglasses that went for $24,000. A guitar of Bob Dylan's sold for $192,000 and Paul McCartney's guitar brought in $81,600. Some of the raised money will go to a charity that replaces musical equipment lost to hurricane Katrina and Rita. |
